Collage

Random House Dictionary defines collage as a technique for composing a work of art by pasting on a single surface various materials not normally associated with one another.  Gwinn considers her compositions “collages” when the image is predominately made up of papers pasted to the substrate of the composition. Often she has already painted the papers which are used; and frequently she paints on them again after they have been pasted to the surface.  Various embellishments may be added to complete the composition. The layers she uses to compose an image are for her a metaphor of the ways human life develops: layer by layer, choice by choice, adjustment by adjustment. Please contact Helen Gwinn with any questions about the art and its availability.
